Term one has been very busy for the boys and girls in first class. They have been working in groups to develop their problem solving skills through Maths and Science. Since September we have been learning to play new board games and card games. It's lovely to see the children co-operating and learning from each other. Thank you to the parents who volunteered during Math's week to help us with our games.
Science week was a big hit. One of our experiments was taking a closer look at our fingerprints. The problem was that we didn't have a microscope, so we had to improvise with a balloon to "blow up" our prints. We learned what a variable was in an experiment. We used the same ink and same finger to make a fingerprint on paper and then on a balloon. The boys and girls loved comparing their fingerprints and seeing what special shapes they had in theirs. Our next experiment was for the budding engineers. The brief was to make a paperclip float. This involved a lot of team work and listening to other people ideas.
