Seachtain na Gaeilge
Bhí coicís an-ghnóthach againn in rang a ceathar le haghaidh Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhí go leor gníomhaíochtaí agus spraoi ar súil timpeall na scoile.
We had a very busy fortnight celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge. There were a load of activities and the children made a great attempt at speaking more Irish. We also based a lot of our history and geography lessons on the theme of Ireland during this time.
Out first activity was learning the words to our national anthem as well as the history of the flag. This was in preparation for a visit from Paul, a member of the Irish defence forces. The children sang the words to Amhráin na bhFiann with great pride during the flag raising ceremony. Paul was very patient with his time and held an assembly in the halla for the older classes where he answered many of their questions and thought the children some Irish army commands and drills. Go raibh maith agat Paul.
Every child in the school coloured in a shamrock which formed part of a whole school art project. They are displayed in the windows at the front of the school and bring a lovely amount of (green) colour to our school.
On Thursday we were treated to a musical performance in the halla from students of Skerries Community College. They played a collection of traditional songs as well as music from popular Irish bands such as The Pogues, The Cranberries and Fontaine's DC. There was a brilliant atmosphere in the halla agus bhainn na páistí an-taitneamh as.
The children of 3rd, 3rd/4th and 4th class were practing some Irish dancing during the week and on Friday we held a céilí in the halla where we danced the seige of Ennis. The children put in a huge effort and it was a brilliant way of celebrating some more Irish culture.
On Wednesday of week 2 we were treated to a performance by High Rock Productions of their one person play, Sceitimíní. The children were very engaged in the play and some of our class even got to play parts in the show. Well done Ellen, Grace Ciarán and Joshua. Thanks to our PTA who sponsored the event.
We wrapped up Seachtain na Gaeilge with a whole school assembly on Thursday. Congratulations to Conor who received a prize for making a huge effort with speaking more Irish during Seachtain na Gaeilge. Maith thú.
Sin é for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2025.
