Sinéad’s Class: Planting & Van Gogh
7th Jun 2024
We got our hands dirty planting our seeds last month. We planted peas, French beans, salad leaves and of course the always reliable cress!
While we were learning about the different parts of plants, it was also a great opportunity to link to our art lesson.
We used Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” as our inspiration. The thoughts of drawing a realistic sunflower were a bit daunting, so we split our pages into three sections. The left is an abstract version of the sunflower in crayon, the middle is realism in pencil and the right is a non-objective style in chalk pastel.
We had a lot of fun exploring the non-objective style. It’s a bit like cloud spotting. There’s nothing in particular to focus on, but everyone can see something different.
